The results of the citizen consultation “no” to the Mazatlan party obtained 1,417 votes, against 129 of the “yes”
Mazatlán, Sin.- In an unprecedented day in Mazatlán, this Sunday a consultation was carried out to define if the citizens agreed that the Mazatlán Carnival 2021 should take place.
And after a measured participation by the Mazatlecos and after the vote counting was done, a result was obtained. With 129 in favor, 1,417 against, and 30 that were annulled, next year there will be no Mazatlan party.
It was 89.9% who said “no”, while the “yes” obtained 8.19 percent. In total, 1,576 votes were received, out of a total of 30,000 ballots that were printed.
The consultation was made from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The reception tables were installed in the República squares, located in the center of the city, and in the Francisco Villa, Flores Magón and Benito Juárez colonies, as well as in Villa Unión and El Habal.
During the day, members of the Collective El Pueblo Salva al Pueblo and the Popular Council of Colonias held demonstrations in some of the places where the consultation was held.
They blamed the mayor of Mazatlán, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, and the governor of the state, Quirino Ordaz Coppel, for the increase in Covid-19 cases that they came to present in Mazatlán, in case they “won” the “yes” to Carnival.
“You don’t play with life. No to Carnival,” said one of the members of this group while holding a banner in disagreement with the carnival consultation.
The vote count began shortly after 6:00 p.m. at the facilities of the Institute of Culture, where the packages containing the ballots arrived.
The first to be delivered was the urn in the Republic square. In the end, she was transferred to the interior of the Municipal Palace and in a patrol, minutes later, to Miguel Alemán Avenue.
